French jazz singer Raquel Bitton will join us at the Preview Room to present and discuss a rare 35mm screening of her beloved concert-documentary, featuring her internationally acclaimed tribute performance to legendary French singer Edith Piaf. PIAF: HER STORY, HER SONGS - Part documentary, part stage performance, this entertaining look at French chanteuse Edith Piaf tells her story through a terrific theatrical presentation by Ms. Bitton, who literally becomes Piaf while singing, but steps back and tells her story - in English - between the mostly French songs. Archival photos of Piaf illustrate her life of lucky breaks and tragedy. The film takes us on a moving and emotional journey through the great artist's tempestuous life. Woven into the filmed concert is a luncheon in Paris, hosted by Bitton, in which many of Piaf's associates, friends and family share their memories of the "Little Sparrow," who died tragically more than 40 years ago. These include Michel Rivgauche and Francis Lai, two of Piaf's composers, as well as Marcel Cerdan, Jr., son of the boxing champion who was her greatest love.
Don't miss this rare opportunity! Seating is limited. Please RSVP via email or phone to Pearl McFarland, 415-488-4576.
